Ange Postecoglou confirmed Cristian Romero was sent off with a hamstring injury, which is a huge setback for Tottenham.
They got the game started immediately, playing some slick football throughout the first thirty minutes.
Richarlison scored the first goal, capping off a wonderful team effort, before Son scored in the 18th minute to make it 2-0.
Cristian Romero, who had a heavy challenge early in the game, did not return for the second half.
Eric Dier came on in place of the Argentine, marking his third appearance of the season.
Despite losing a late goal, the defense held on for a 2-1 victory.
When asked about Romero after the game, Ange revealed he was pulled off due to hamstring tightness.
According to him (via Football London):
“He felt tightness in his hamstring just before half-time so we had to take him off.”
This is a significant setback for the Spurs. Spurs will be in the same predicament as they were following the Chelsea defeat earlier this season if he is injured.
They went 5 games without a win without Romero and van de Ven.
Tottenham will play two more games before the transfer market opens. Ange will want to close a deal as soon as the window opens to secure a new defender.

Mike Dean believes officials committed one major error in Everton’s loss against Tottenham.
The decision to overturn Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goal was seen as’very soft’ by Everton.
The Toffees had not surrendered a goal in their previous four Premier League games before traveling to Tottenham Hotspur. They were, however, 2-0 down after only 18 minutes.
Only five minutes into the second half, Dominic Calvert-Lewin believed he had cut the deficit in half when Andre Gomes slid in a superb ball for the striker to tuck home.
The goal, however, was called back for a VAR review and was subsequently overturned due to a foul by Gomes on Emerson Royal in the build-up.
Despite a strong second-half performance from Everton, Gomes’ late goal was simply a consolation, as the Toffees were upset by yet another contentious VAR decision.
Former Premier League referee Mike Dean weighed in on the goal’s disallowance, arguing that the foul was ‘not enough’ to nullify Calvert-Lewin’s fourth of the season.
Dean stated on Sky Sports, “It’s a small contact, but not enough for me to overturn it.”
“It’s minimal contact, they’ve recommended to look at it, the assistant referee had an excellent view and originally would’ve said, ‘no foul, no foul’, they’ve shown a picture of it but it’s very gentle.”
Did Everton lose the game because of the VAR decision?
While it is not the worst judgment we have ever seen VAR make, it is certainly one that Everton will find frustrating.
Andre Gomes obviously made contact with Emerson Royal, but the game has gone insane if it is enough to warrant a free kick. If that is the case, footballers are unable to make any form of contact with the opposition.

It’s not good enough for the authorities, and Everton will be irritated by their error, but it doesn’t make up for the visitors’ terrible first 20 minutes.
Everton cannot be that sluggish from the start when facing a team like Tottenham, since they clearly have the talent in Heung-min Son and Richarlison to punish them.
Everton definitely deserved more than loss in the end, and who knows what might have happened if Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goal had been awarded, but there is nothing that can be done now.
It ends their fantastic winning streak, but it is not cause for fear for fans, who will not have expected an easy encounter against Ange Postecoglou’s team.
