Dan Ashworth was observed scouting a ‘promising’ striker ahead of the January transfer window.

Newcastle United director Dan Ashworth was spotted in the stands at a Salernitana game as the club prepares for the January transfer window.

Newcastle has struggled to produce goals in crucial periods this season and may look for a new attacker next month if the price is right.

According to Gianluca di Marzio, Ashworth was at the game against AC Milan to watch striker Boulaye Dia, who Newcastle could buy next month.

Newcastle is in desperate need of another goal striker.
While it would be difficult to find a finer duo of attackers in the Premier League than Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak, Newcastle is still looking for another attacker.

Both players have experienced with injuries this season, as have most Newcastle players, and having only the two of them as attacking alternatives at St James’ Park has become a major concern.

Newcastle may try to reinforce their assault with a new signing in January after considering Serhou Guirassy, but they are also paying close attention to the ‘outstanding’ Dia, who is presently playing for Salernitana in Serie A.

The 27-year-old has scored four goals in 13 league games this season and is coveted by a number of Premier League clubs seeking for a new goalscoring threat.

Ashworth’s position at Newcastle appears to be in jeopardy.
Despite going on scouting missions to try to discover fresh signings for Newcastle this season, Ashworth’s future at the club appears to be in doubt as Manchester United continues to pursue him.

It seems weird that a man in his position, where his work frequently centered around building a long-term project, would consider jumping ship, but money talks, just like in any other walk of life.

It would not be the end of the world if Ashworth left, and Newcastle have already set up a prospective replacement who Eddie Howe knows well, but it would be a blow after all of his efforts to establish this long-term project.
