Sources: As West Ham faces rivals in the Premier League, Celtic is seeking more than £25 million for Matt O’Riley.
Despite interest from several Premier League clubs, Celtic does not want to sell
midfield star Matt O’Riley in January, sources have told Football Insider. The 23-year-old is reportedly
aware that English teams are interested in him, but the Hoops plan to keep him at Parkhead this winter.
Football Insider disclosed on Tuesday, December 26, that West Ham United is closely monitoring O’Riley, who is
being observed by a number of teams in the English premier league.
The Danish international is valued at £25 million by Brendan Rodgers’ team, which is the
same amount Arsenal paid for left-back Kieran Tierney in the summer of 2019. Throughout the bulk of their six
Champions League group-stage matches this season, the Hammers have dispatched scouts to observe the central
midfielder. He is considered a valuable asset at the team and is anticipated to be the next player on the Hoops’
roster to command a high-profile transfer, similar to Tierney and Odsonne Edouard’s summer 2021 move to Crystal
Palace for a reported £14 million.
In January 2022, Celtic reportedly paid MK Dons £1.5 million for O’Riley, but they anticipate
turning a healthy profit on the player now that he has established himself as a key member of the Glasgow team. This
season, he has started every game in every competition save one and has nine goals and eight assists. He has made
97 appearances since his transfer, scoring 17 goals and providing 24 assists.
They next play Rangers at Celtic Park on Saturday, December 30, in a much awaited Old Firm match.
