A former quarterback from Florida State University has determined his new destination.
After entering the NCAA Transfer Portal. The transfer window has concluded, prompting players nationwide to secure their spots with new teams. Florida State has actively sought to replenish its roster, securing four transfers in the past few weeks.
Tate Rodemaker, a redshirt senior who recently entered the transfer portal just before the Orange Bowl, has now made his decision. He will be transferring to Southern Miss for his final season of eligibility, as indicated by his social media posts. Following his departure, Florida State’s quarterback room, apart from graduate transfer DJ Uiagalelei, is relatively young heading into the spring. Rodemaker will be in competition with junior Billy Wiles (who had a 53.8% completion rate, 11 TDs, and 8 INTs in 2023) for the starting quarterback position at Southern Miss.
Southern Miss is familiar with Rodemaker’s capabilities, having faced him in a game against Florida State during the previous season, which resulted in a 66-13 victory for the Seminoles. In that game, Rodemaker completed 3 out of 3 passes for 72 yards, securing two touchdowns.
Rodemaker, who spent much of his time at FSU backing up star quarterback Jordan Travis, found himself in action on multiple occasions, notably leading the Seminoles to victories over Louisville and Florida. In the 2023 season, he completed 57.1% of his passes, amassing 510 yards, five touchdowns, and zero interceptions.
Originally hailing from Georgia, Rodemaker joined FSU as a three-star prospect in the 2020 class, marking head coach Mike Norvell’s first commitment in Tallahassee. Over his tenure at Florida State, Rodemaker played in 22 appearances, making three starts, and completed 68 out of 118 passes for 901 yards, with seven touchdowns and five interceptions.
Apart from Rodemaker, the Seminoles witnessed a significant number of players entering the transfer portal during the recent window closure on January 4. Notable departures include quarterback AJ Duffy (San Diego State), Rodney Hill, running back CJ Campbell (FAU), tight ends Markeston Douglas (Arizona State) and Preston Daniel, wide receiver Goldie Lawrence, offensive linemen Bless Harris (TCU), Thomas Schrader, Daughtry Richardson (FAU), and Qae’shon Sapp (ECU), as well as defensive players like Gilber Edmond, Malcolm Ray (Rutgers), Ayobami Tifase (Georgia Tech), DJ Lundy (Colorado), Dylan Brown-Turner, and kicker Tyler Keltner (Oklahoma).
