On Friday Downs announced his intention to join the Ohio State Buckeyes. He will have three more years of eligibility remaining to play for the Big 10 powerhouse.

.As a true freshman, the Georgia 5-star recruit led the Crimson Tide in tackles. His transition to Columbus was somewhat easier because Ohio State, Georgia, and Alabama were the final three schools vying for his recruit out of high school.

SEC Newcomer of the Year, Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award Winner, First Team All-American by Pro Football Focus, First Team All-SEC, and First Team Freshman All-SEC were all given to Downs.

Throughout the summer and fall training, Downs received a lot of praise from former Alabama head coach Nick Saban as well as his teammates on the team. He made an immediate impression on the Crimson Tide supporters, starting every one of the team’s 14 games, recording 107 tackles, five pass breakups, two interceptions, forcing and recovering a fumble, and one special teams touchdown return.
