The Green Bay Packers are requesting permission to speak with one highly regarded and sought-after Dallas Cowboys coach.
The Green Bay Packers moved swiftly in their pursuit of a new defensive coordinator, opting to part ways with Joe Barry, who had served in the role since 2021, following another disappointing season for the defense despite boasting a roster filled with talent, including eight former first-round picks.
As they set out to fill the void left by Barry’s departure, the Packers wasted no time in conducting interviews. Their first candidate was Brandon Staley, the former head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. Staley’s previous collaboration with Barry in 2020 while serving as the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams hinted at a potential continuation of defensive strategies if Staley were to join the Packers.
In addition to Staley, the Packers sought permission to interview Bobby Babich, the linebackers coach for the Buffalo Bills. Babich’s reputation for his contributions to the development of the Bills’ formidable linebacker corps drew attention to his candidacy for the Packers’ defensive coordinator position.
Further expanding their search, the Packers expressed interest in a defensive coach from the Dallas Cowboys, specifically targeting Aden Durde, the defensive line coach. Durde’s background is distinctive, originating from Europe, and he has garnered recognition for his association with Cowboys’ defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and his track record of success in nurturing defensive lines.
Durde’s journey to coaching in the NFL includes a professional playing career in Europe, along with stints in training camps with NFL teams such as the Carolina Panthers and Kansas City Chiefs. His coaching trajectory commenced with the London Olympians and progressed to positions with the Atlanta Falcons under the leadership of Dan Quinn before ultimately assuming the role of defensive line coach with the Dallas Cowboys in 2021.
