Title: Chicago White Sox Sign John Brebbia to One-Year Deal Worth $5.5 Million with Mutual Option
The Chicago White Sox have bolstered their pitching staff by signing right-hander John Brebbia to a one-year contract worth $5.5 million, including a mutual option for the 2025 season. The deal, finalized on Friday, provides Brebbia with a base salary of $4 million for the upcoming year, along with an option for $6 million in 2025 and a $1.5 million buyout clause. Additionally, Brebbia stands to earn up to $1 million in annual performance bonuses based on the number of games pitched, with increments of $250,000 each for reaching 45, 50, 55, and 60 games.
Brebbia, a seasoned 33-year-old pitcher, brings a wealth of experience to the White Sox bullpen. Last season, while with the San Francisco Giants, he posted a 3-5 record with a 3.99 ERA across 40 appearances, including 10 starts. His campaign was briefly interrupted from mid-June to early September due to a strained right lat.
In the preceding year, Brebbia showcased his capabilities with the Giants, tallying a 6-2 record alongside a commendable 3.18 ERA, marking the most appearances (76) by any National League pitcher. Over his six-season tenure split between the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco, Brebbia has accumulated a 15-15 record and maintained a solid 3.42 ERA, underscoring his reliability and effectiveness on the mound.
In light of Brebbia’s acquisition, the White Sox have made a corresponding roster move by designating infielder/outfielder Romy Gonzalez for assignment, reflecting the team’s strategic roster adjustments and commitment to enhancing their pitching depth for the upcoming season.
