On matchday six of the European campaign, Celtic, the reigning Premiership champions, hosted Eredivisie outfit Feyenoord in Glasgow in a match that held little significance in terms of advancing to the next stage. With Celtic already eliminated from contention and Feyenoord securing their place in the Europa League, the encounter was essentially a dead-rubber tie. However, despite the lack of stakes, both clubs have been sanctioned for contentious incidents that occurred during the game. Feyenoord has been penalized with a substantial fine of €16,500 (£14,000) for what UEFA categorized as the “throwing of objects.”

In UEFA’s latest disciplinary decisions stemming from their disciplinary meetings, Celtic has been issued a fine of €5,000 (£4,200) for an incident labeled as the “Invasion of the field of play.” This designation underscores the severity of the breach of protocol during the match. Meanwhile, Aberdeen embarked on a journey to Finland for their encounter with Helsinki, during which they were also implicated in a disciplinary infraction. Aberdeen has been levied a fine of €2,000 (£1,700) for the “throwing of objects” during the match against Helsinki. The game was momentarily halted due to traveling Aberdeen fans hurling snowballs towards the Helsinki goalmouth. In response to the overall conduct during the match, HJK, Helsinki’s team, has received a cautionary warning from UEFA for issues relating to the “late ambulance arrival” and “throwing of objects.”

These fines levied against both Celtic and Aberdeen underscore the importance of maintaining discipline and adherence to regulations during international competitions. Despite the lack of major consequences in terms of advancement, such incidents detract from the integrity and sportsmanship of the game. Moving forward, it is imperative for clubs to uphold the values of fair play and respect for opponents, officials, and the overall spirit of the competition.
