Ex defensive lineman from FSU Football expresses feeling slighted by their exclusion from the College Football Playoff, describing it as a disrespectful gesture…
Fabien Lovett, a former defensive lineman for Florida State, is presently engaged in training sessions in the Tampa Bay region to gear up for the NFL Combine.
During an appearance on WDAE’s “Jay And Z,” a sports talk radio program based in Tampa, Lovett reflected on his time at Florida State University (FSU) and addressed the program’s notable exclusion from the College Football Playoff (CFP).
Lovett shared his sentiments regarding the emotional rollercoaster experienced by himself and his teammates, transitioning from the elation of winning the ACC Championship on December 2nd to the disappointment of being left out of the CFP the following day.
Expressing his disappointment, Lovett described the omission from the CFP as a “slap in the face” for the entire team. He recounted the anticipation leading up to the CFP selection show, noting FSU’s status as one of the undefeated teams in the country. However, the subsequent outcome came as a shock, leaving the team disheartened despite their dedicated efforts throughout the season.
Despite the setback, Lovett acknowledged the reality of the situation, recognizing that certain factors were beyond their control, and emphasized the team’s commitment to giving their best despite the outcome.
Additionally, Lovett offered insights into FSU head coach Mike Norvell’s character and coaching philosophy, particularly focusing on Norvell’s consistent demeanor and emphasis on the holistic development of student-athletes both on and off the field. According to Lovett, Norvell prioritizes discipline and accountability, stressing the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle to succeed both in sports and in life.
In terms of his own collegiate career, Lovett concluded his time at FSU with notable achievements, including six sacks, 93 total tackles, and 14.5 tackles for loss. The bulk of his statistics were amassed during his four-year tenure with the Seminoles from 2020 to 2023, during which he recorded five sacks, 12 tackles for loss, and 74 total tackles across 47 games, with 36 appearances for Florida State.
Presently, Lovett is diligently training in Clearwater, Florida, under the guidance of Athlete Innovations, in preparation for the upcoming NFL Combine as he endeavors to pursue a career at the professional level.
