NFL free agency: Browns listed as a possible destination for WR among top 150 free agents
Despite GM Andrew Berry’s track record of being proactive, only one NFL free agent is currently linked to Cleveland.
With the Cleveland Browns facing 26 impending free agents and holding eight selections in the upcoming NFL draft, Berry has the flexibility within the salary cap to enact substantial changes to the team’s roster. Additionally, owner Jimmy Haslam’s financial support further facilitates Berry’s ability to make strategic acquisitions.
Since assuming his role with the team, Berry has consistently pursued highly-regarded free agents to bolster the Browns’ roster, from Jack Conklin and Austin Hooper in his first year to Dalvin Tomlinson, Juan Thornhill, and Ogbo Okoronkwo in the previous season. While not all signings have met expectations, Berry’s involvement in free agency has been consistent each year.
As the NFL free agency period approaches, it’s noteworthy to examine players linked to Cleveland. Pro Football Focus has identified Minnesota Vikings WR KJ Osborn as a potential target for the Browns. Osborn, primarily utilized in the slot in 2022 and transitioning to an outside role in 2023, offers versatility and has shown productivity within the Vikings’ passing game. Although he struggled with drops in the previous season, Osborn could provide valuable depth to numerous teams. PFF ranks Osborn as the 142nd overall free agent, projecting a two-year contract worth $10 million. Over the past three seasons, Osborn has amassed 158 receptions for over 1,845 yards and 15 touchdowns.
While veteran QB Joe Flacco isn’t listed among the top 150 free agents, former Browns quarterbacks Baker Mayfield and Jacoby Brissett are mentioned. Mayfield is expected to rejoin the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but the Denver Broncos are also considered a potential landing spot according to PFF. Brissett, ranked #126 on the list, is projected to sign with either the Las Vegas Raiders or New England Patriots.
