The Pittsburgh Steelers have been identified as a potential destination for a top-tier cornerback.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are being considered as a possible destination for one of the premier cornerbacks in the NFL. As they seek to strengthen their secondary, they could potentially acquire L’Jarius Sneed, who is set to become a free agent after his contract with the Kansas City Chiefs expires this season. Pro Football Focus has identified Pittsburgh, along with the Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers, and Philadelphia Eagles, as contenders for Sneed’s services.
Sneed had an impressive season with 14 passes defended, two interceptions, and 78 total tackles in 16 regular season games. He has consistently performed well throughout his four-year NFL career, contributing to a Chiefs secondary that ranked fourth in both passing yards and touchdowns allowed during the 2023 season.
According to OverTheCap.com, Sneed’s anticipated contract could be valued at approximately $14,969,000 annually, placing him among the highest-paid cornerbacks in the league alongside players like Darius Slay, Tre’Davius White, and J.C. Jackson. With the Steelers currently having $15,661,486 in cap space, they are financially positioned to pursue such a contract.
While the Steelers drafted Joey Porter Jr. as a starting-caliber cornerback last spring, the status of their remaining cornerbacks is uncertain. Levi Wallace, Chandon Sullivan, and James Pierre are all set to become free agents this offseason. Additionally, there is speculation about a potential position change for Patrick Peterson, who performed well at safety during the 2023 season, possibly extending his career. Furthermore, the return of Corey Trice, a seventh-round pick from the 2023 draft who was sidelined with a knee injury, could provide additional depth to the Steelers’ cornerback group.
