The Detroit Lions have identified an All-Pro edge rusher as their primary trade target.

The Detroit Lions are expected to address their cornerback needs this offseason, but bolstering their defense’s pass rush could also be crucial. The Bleacher Report NFL scouting department has suggested a trade idea that could significantly improve Detroit’s pass rush by acquiring outside linebacker Haason Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Reddick, a two-time Pro Bowler, recorded a career-high 16 sacks in 2022 and has consistently posted double-digit sack numbers over the past four seasons.

Adding Reddick to the Lions’ defense could complement edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson and create a formidable duo that poses challenges for opposing offensive lines. Reddick’s impressive track record includes over 12.5 sacks per season, along with numerous tackles for loss, forced fumbles, and pass defenses since 2020.

While the Lions have promising young talent like James Houston, who showed potential as a pass rusher before suffering an ankle injury in 2023, the opportunity to acquire a proven talent like Reddick could be enticing. Despite Houston’s injury setback, the Lions have demonstrated confidence in his abilities, as evidenced by his return for the NFC championship game.

However, with the 2024 season expected to be pivotal for the Lions, adding a talent like Reddick could align with their Super Bowl aspirations. Reddick has one year remaining on his contract, and while financial details would need to be negotiated, the Eagles could save significant cap space by trading him after June 1.

The Lions currently have ample cap space, ranked seventh with $61.1 million available this offseason, making them well-positioned to pursue impactful acquisitions like Reddick.
