As the college football season nears its conclusion, the transfer portal is buzzing with activity. Among the departures from Tallahassee, several Florida State Seminoles players are making their way out, with redshirt freshman running back Rodney Hill being the latest to announce his decision to enter the transfer portal.

Having joined the program in 2022, Hill had limited appearances, featuring in just four games and accumulating 144 rushing yards on 27 attempts. During the recent season, he ranked third among Seminoles running backs in terms of touches, with 190 rushing yards on 50 carries and one touchdown. He also contributed 83 receiving yards on five catches.

Hill initially joined Florida State as a three-star running back and was among the top 50 players in Georgia in the 2022 recruiting class.

With Florida State actively navigating the transfer portal season, they now have the chance to explore potential replacements for the upcoming season, especially if Trey Benson decides to enter the 2024 NFL Draft. There would have been an opportunity for Hill to make an impact if he had chosen to stay with the program.

Expressing gratitude to his coaches and the FSU community, Hill announced his decision to enter the transfer portal via social media.

Looking ahead to next season, the Seminoles are expected to rely heavily on Lawrance Toafili, but they’ll need to bolster the depth at the running back position, particularly after CJ Campbell Jr. also entered the transfer portal. Assuming Benson declares for the draft, Caziah Holmes and Samuel Singleton Jr. are slated to be the backup running backs for the Orange Bowl against Georgia.

With two running backs now in the transfer portal, it remains to be seen how Florida State will address this gap for the upcoming season as they enter a new era at various key positions.

The Orange Bowl is scheduled for Dec. 30 at 4:00 p.m. ET and will be televised on ESPN.
