An experienced NFL assistant coach is said to be under consideration for the role of defensive coordinator at the University of Michigan. Joe Cullen, currently serving as the defensive line coach for the Kansas City Chiefs, is reportedly a strong contender for the position, as noted by Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports. Additionally, the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders are also expressing interest in Cullen for similar roles within their organizations.

Cullen boasts extensive coaching experience spanning over three decades, having worked in both collegiate and professional football. While his primary focus has been on coaching defensive lines, he also held the position of defensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021.

Michigan’s newly appointed head coach, Sherrone Moore, is in the process of building his coaching staff, with the defensive coordinator role being particularly crucial to fill. This position became vacant following the departure of Jesse Minter, who opted to join Jim Harbaugh at the Los Angeles Chargers after earning praise for his contributions to the Wolverines’ defense.
