Los Angeles Clippers forward P.J. Tucker is experiencing difficulties in California since being traded from the Philadelphia 76ers in October as part of the James Harden deal. While Harden has found success with his new team, Tucker has found himself relegated to a bench role.
Reports suggest that Tucker is actively seeking a trade before Thursday’s trade deadline, with the veteran player reportedly dissatisfied with his current situation. This discontent is not a new development, as similar rumors have circulated earlier in the season, indicating ongoing frustration.
Since joining the Clippers, Tucker has only appeared in 12 games, averaging 1.2 points and 2.4 rebounds in 14.4 minutes per game. This starkly contrasts with his previous roles, where he consistently played over 24 minutes per game and often started for his teams.
Despite Tucker’s desire for a change, it may be challenging to facilitate a trade due to his contract situation. He is earning $11 million this season, with a player option of $11.5 million for the next year. Moreover, Clippers coach Tyronn Lue may not be inclined to adjust his rotation significantly, given the team’s recent success, winning 17 of their last 20 games and boasting a 26-5 record since December.
Finding a trade partner willing to absorb Tucker’s contract remains a hurdle for the Clippers as they navigate Tucker’s desire for a new opportunity.
