The situation worsened when Pickett got injured, leading to Mitchell Trubisky taking over as the starter. However, under Trubisky’s leadership, the team failed to secure any wins and didn’t surpass 200 passing yards in his two starts. Consequently, Mason Rudolph replaced him and ended the regular season with three wins, securing a playoff spot, but a disappointing postseason game in Buffalo concluded their year.
Uncertainty now looms over the quarterback situation. Despite starting as the third-string quarterback, Rudolph appeared the most consistent last season. Will Pittsburgh continue with Pickett, their first-round draft pick? What will happen to Trubisky?
Rooney’s recent comments suggest the team is open to exploring all options to improve for the upcoming season.
Various quarterbacks might be available in the market, including Justin Fields, whose time in Chicago might be limited, and Kirk Cousins, who has been linked to the Steelers.
Although the Steelers are only in their second year with Pickett, doubts have already arisen about his future with the team. It remains to be seen if the Steelers will maintain faith in Pickett or opt for a new direction.
