Minnesota Vikings Offensive Coordinator, Wes Phillips, is set to admit guilt for careless driving charges and will be responsible for a $378 fine.
MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) – According to records from Hennepin County Court, Wes Phillips, the offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings, is anticipated to enter a guilty plea on Friday to an amended charge of careless driving following his arrest on December 8 for fourth-degree DWI.
The incident occurred just days before the Vikings were scheduled to play against the Las Vegas Raiders. Phillips, aged 44, was pulled over around 11 p.m. on December 8 and was found to have a blood alcohol content of .10, which exceeds the legal limit for driving in Minnesota.
Phillips was released the same night from Hennepin County Jail after posting a $300 bond. As part of the plea agreement, Phillips is expected to pay $378 in fines and complete eight hours of community service.
Speaking at the TCO Performance Center four days after his arrest, Phillips addressed the situation publicly for the first time. Despite traveling with the team to Las Vegas and witnessing their 3-0 victory over the Raiders, Phillips acknowledged his failure to meet the standards set by both himself and the NFL, as well as the Minnesota Vikings.
Expressing regret for diverting attention from the team’s on-field achievements, Phillips emphasized accountability and the importance of learning from mistakes. He accepted the possibility of facing discipline and emphasized his commitment to personal growth and maintaining a positive attitude moving forward.
Currently serving as the Vikings’ offensive coordinator for the second year under Kevin O’Connell, Phillips’ legal situation has drawn attention amidst his coaching responsibilities.
