A former pitcher from the New York Yankees is in talks with their longtime rivals, the Boston Red Sox, about a potential signing.

Jordan Montgomery, who previously played for the Yankees before moving to the St. Louis Cardinals and later the Texas Rangers in 2023, has attracted attention during this offseason. After showcasing his skills with both the Cardinals and the Rangers, Montgomery has become a sought-after free agent.

Montgomery’s journey began when the Yankees traded him to St. Louis in 2022, where he excelled. His performance caught the eye of the Texas Rangers, where he continued to impress and played a pivotal role in their journey to the World Series.

Now, as Montgomery seeks his next team, reports indicate that he has engaged in discussions with the Boston Red Sox regarding a potential contract. According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, the Red Sox recently conducted a Zoom meeting with Montgomery to explore the possibility of adding him to their roster.

Olney commented on the meeting, stating, “He’d represent an upgrade for their 2024 rotation, and if signed to a long-term deal, could be part of the staff rotation. They certainly have the payroll flexibility to make it happen.”

While Montgomery has been linked to several teams, the Red Sox have emerged as one of the leading contenders for his signature. Although there were murmurs of a potential reunion with the Yankees, such a scenario seems unlikely at this stage.

At 31 years old, Montgomery may not secure the lucrative contract he once envisioned, but it appears that a decision on his next team may be imminent. With Boston in need of bolstering their starting rotation, Montgomery could prove to be a valuable addition to their lineup.
