Following their spring training game against the Boston Red Sox at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Fla., on Monday, the Philadelphia Phillies encountered an incident involving their team bus. MLB.com reported that the accident occurred without any injuries and seemed to be a minor collision, as the bus was rear-ended by a car while merging onto I-75 North via an on-ramp. Although the bus sustained minimal damage, the car that struck it exhibited visible damage, according to MLB.com. The delay caused by the accident inconvenienced the Phillies, delaying their departure by an hour until the Florida Highway Patrol concluded their investigation. Among the players aboard the bus were Johan Rojas, Edmundo Sosa, and Yunior Marte. Once the authorities cleared the scene, the Phillies resumed their journey to their spring training facility in Clearwater, Fla.

In terms of the game itself, the Red Sox emerged victorious with a 7-6 win, marking the Phillies’ Grapefruit League record at 2-1. Noteworthy moments from the game included Whit Merrifield, a recent addition to the Phillies’ roster, hitting his first home run of the spring. Merrifield’s signing aimed to strengthen the team’s outfield depth as Brandon Marsh recuperates from arthroscopic surgery, with Marsh expected to return before the regular season commences. David Buchanan started the game for the Phillies, pitching for two innings and conceding four hits and two earned runs while registering two strikeouts and one walk in his debut spring training outing.
