The San Francisco 49ers have secured right tackle Colton McKivitz’s presence on the team until the 2025 season by signing a one-year extension.

According to McKivitz’s representatives at AMDG Sports, the extension for the 2025 season is valued at $7 million, with approximately $4.5 million guaranteed. McKivitz, who is currently in the final season of a two-year, $4.56 million deal signed last offseason, was originally drafted by the Niners in the fifth round of the 2020 draft. He had limited playing time in his first three seasons but took on the starting role last season after Mike McGlinchey departed in free agency.

During the previous season, the 27-year-old started all 17 games, playing in 98% of San Francisco’s offensive snaps and maintaining a consistent presence in three postseason games. McKivitz was honored with the Bobb McKittrick Award, which is given annually to the Niners’ offensive lineman demonstrating courage, intensity, and sacrifice, highlighting his contributions on the field.

Despite conceding 47 pressures last season, a statistic that tied him for the eighth most among all NFL tackles according to Pro Football Focus, McKivitz’s reliability was evident. He allowed 12 pressures in three playoff games, emphasizing the team’s need to enhance pass protection, especially for quarterback Brock Purdy.

With Jon Feliciano, who shared right guard duties with Spencer Burford, set to become an unrestricted free agent next week, the Niners are looking to strengthen their offensive line. McKivitz’s versatility, having played some guard during his career, offers valuable flexibility for San Francisco, particularly if they opt to pursue a right tackle in the upcoming draft.
