No. 5 Georgia softball overcomes No. 15 Alabama 11-3 for its second conference victory.

The Bulldogs dominated the Crimson Tide in the fifth inning on Saturday, improving to 2-0 in SEC play and 23-2 overall this season.

Georgia’s leadoff batter, Lyndi Rae Davis, reached base promptly with a hard-hit ground ball through the middle for a single. Jayda Kearney capitalized on this opportunity, hitting a home run to give Davis and herself an early 2-0 lead.

Kearney’s home run increases her total to 12 for the season, putting her fourth in the country for NCAA D1 home runs.

Georgia’s heavy offensive pressure shook up the Tide in the third inning, as Ellie Armistead, Sarah Gordon, and Davis were all walked to load the bases. Sara Mosley then launched her career-first grand slam.

Though the Crimson Tide scored one run in the fourth inning, pitcher Lilli Backes swiftly grabbed control, striking out three batters with ease to send the Bulldogs back to the plate.

Backes’ efforts were also worthwhile. Gordon and Dallis Goodnight reached base after two walks, and Lyndi Rae Davis doubled to make the score 7-1 for Georgia. Mosley next hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Goodnight to tag up and end the inning 8-1.
