**Report: Donovan Mitchell to Knicks ‘Ship Has Sailed’**

According to NBA insider Michael Scotto from HoopsHype, the possibility of Donovan Mitchell being traded to the New York Knicks is no longer on the table. Mitchell is expected to sign an extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers this offseason.

Scotto explained that while the Knicks have accumulated draft picks and flexible contracts to trade for a star, Mitchell is no longer a target. The Knicks had aimed to acquire Mitchell from the Utah Jazz in 2022, but he was traded to the Cavaliers instead.

Mitchell is eligible for a four-year, $208 million extension this offseason. He has one more season under contract with a $37 million player option for 2025-26. In the recent season, Mitchell averaged 26.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists, with shooting percentages of 46.2% from the field, 36.8% from three, and 86.5% from the free-throw line.

The Cavaliers advanced past the Orlando Magic in the first playoff round but were defeated by the Boston Celtics in the second round. Throughout his career with the Jazz and Cavaliers, Mitchell has averaged 24.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game. Last season, he scored a career-high 71 points against the Chicago Bulls.

NBA insider Jake Fischer from Yahoo Sports also reported an increasing expectation that Mitchell will sign an extension with the Cavaliers. Scotto added that several rival executives believe Mitchell will sign a max extension for at least three more seasons, making him eligible for a more lucrative contract under the CBA rules after 10 years of service.
