USATF MOURNS BROOKS JOHNSON’S DEATH ON JULY 8, 2024
Brooks Johnson, who was 90 years old when he passed away on June 29, was one of the most well-liked track and field coaches in the world. His impact was felt in practically every facet of the sport, both on and off the track.
Throughout his time in the sport, Johnson’s leadership was practically unmatched. Having coached athletes at the Olympic and World Championship levels since 1960, he served as a member of the coaching staff for Team USA in the following Olympic Games: 1976, 1984, 2004, and 2008. In 1984, Johnson served as head women’s coach; in 2008, she was the relay coach. Johnson was appointed head coach of the USA vs. USSR dual meet three times, in 1969, 1973, and 1978. Additionally, he functioned as an assistant.
