The teams jointly decided to postpone the sessions scheduled for coming Thursday and Friday in Irvine, where the

Saints are training this summer, as of Sunday. On Sunday, the clubs will square off in Levi’s Stadium for their second

exhibition match of the preseason.

After speaking with his counterpart Dennis Allen of New Orleans all weekend, San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan

concluded on Sunday that the Niners lacked sufficient healthy players to conduct a productive joint practice.

The coaches had been eager to play against another squad in a controlled setting, and this was the only combined

practice that both teams had planned for this training camp.

Following the Niners’ exhibition game against Tennessee on Saturday, Shanahan stated that approximately twenty-

three players were sidelined by injuries last week, preventing them from practicing. Ambry Thomas, a cornerback for

San Francisco, was later lost to a fractured forearm during the game.

Though he hoped to have enough back this week to practice, he concluded on Sunday that it would not be possible.

As of right now, both teams will work out independently before this weekend’s match.

Allen stated, “I like the joint practices.” “I believe that competing with someone else is beneficial.

However, a number of Niners players have suffered minor injuries. These players include linebackers Fred Warner

and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles; cornerbacks Darrell Luter Jr. and Isaac Yiadom; running backs Christian

McCaffrey, Elijah Mitchell, and Isaac Guerendo; and offensive linemen Jaylon Moore, Spencer Burford, and Jon

Feliciano.

In addition, All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams is holding out for a new contract, while San Francisco is without

receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who is refusing to train due to a disagreement over a contract.

After the game, Shanahan expressed optimism that a settlement with Williams would be reached, but he was less

convinced about the situation with Aiyuk. Aiyuk has been granted permission to speak with and has requested a
