Early in the offseason, Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian suffered a significant loss from their personnel staff as Billy Glasscock, the director of player personnel, was hired by Ole Miss to serve as their new general manager under Lane Kiffin’s leadership.
Glasscock, who had been with Texas for three seasons, played a pivotal role in assembling the roster that led the Longhorns to win the Big 12 Championship and reach the College Football Playoff in the 2023-24 season. His departure leaves a notable gap in Sarkisian’s team-building efforts.
Before joining Texas, Glasscock held similar positions with NC State and Minnesota during the 2010s, highlighting his experience in player personnel roles.
Ole Miss’s decision to bring Glasscock on board underscores their commitment to leveraging the transfer portal to bolster their roster, particularly evident in their pursuit of the top transfer class for the 2024 cycle as per the 247Sports Composite rankings.
With Glasscock’s departure, Texas finds itself needing to fill another vacancy on its support staff early in the offseason. This turnover is expected as successful programs like Texas attract attention, leading to staff members being hired away by other schools seeking to replicate their success.
Sarkisian and the Longhorns have already made replacements for other key coaches and staffers who departed earlier in the offseason. Notably, defensive coaches Bo Davis and Jeff Choate were hired by other FBS programs, prompting Texas to bring in Kenny Baker, formerly of the Miami Dolphins, as the new defensive line coach and Johnny Nansen, previously with the Arizona Wildcats, as co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.
