Frank Vogel, the head coach of the Phoenix Suns, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the on-court actions of Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green, indicating a desire for a more substantial punishment to be levied against Green. During a postgame press conference following a game on Tuesday night, Vogel emphasized that such behavior has no place in the NBA.

Vogel stated, “Just looked like a reckless and dangerous play. I’m sensitive to our guys getting hit on plays like that. So I didn’t like it, the refs did what they had to do, and the league will do what they have to do” (via PHNX Suns). His remarks came in response to Green being ejected from the game in the third quarter after receiving a Flagrant 2 foul for striking Suns center Jusuf Nurkic in the face.

While Vogel expressed his disapproval of Green’s actions, he also indicated that the decision on the severity of the punishment lies with the NBA. This incident adds to Green’s history of on-court controversies, including a recent suspension of five games last November for an altercation with Rudy Gobert of the Minnesota Timberwolves, as well as a $2,000 fine for a technical foul in a late-November matchup against the Sacramento Kings.

Green, a four-time NBA champion and former NBA Defensive Player of the Year, has often been at the center of controversy due to his behavior on the court. Vogel’s comments reflect a broader sentiment within the league regarding how to address Green’s actions and ensure that appropriate measures are taken to deter similar behavior in the future.

In the game against the Suns, Green contributed minimally, recording just two points, two rebounds, two assists, and three turnovers in 17 minutes of play. As the NBA continues to assess and address incidents of on-court misconduct, the league faces the challenge of finding effective means to educate players and uphold standards of sportsmanship and fair play.
