Jordan Pickford dismisses the label of the Celtic vs Rangers match as the “biggest derby,” as the Everton goalkeeper focuses more on local rivalries for bragging rights.

Jordan Pickford has a different opinion of the Old Firm, which is frequently referred to as the largest derby in the UK.

Jordan Pickford, who thinks that the Sunderland vs Newcastle match is as significant a rivalry as the Old Firm derby, believes that there is no place better than home. This is especially true as the Tyne-Wear showdown has been drawn against each other in the FA Cup.

It will be the initial north-east confrontation in more than six years due to contrasting circumstances both on and off the field for the two clubs. While Newcastle have experienced the remarkable success of a significant financial acquisition, multi-million pound transfers, and participation in the Champions League, Sunderland have spent four years in League One since their previous encounter. Only recently have they shown signs of a potential return to the Premier League, having been defeated in the semi-finals of the Championship play-offs last season.

The upcoming match between these two teams is widely considered to be the most significant encounter of the third round. Former players from both clubs have been generating excitement and anticipation for the game. Pickford, who was raised as a Sunderland fan, was questioned about the match on beIN Sports. He stated that it is one of the biggest rivalries in the UK, along with Celtic vs Rangers, instead of the traditional top rank held by the Old Firm rivalry.

Pickford stated that, in his opinion, there is no larger local rivalry in the country than the one between Newcastle and Sunderland. I believe it is comparable to Celtic versus Rangers. For me it’s one of the biggest derbies, atmosphere-wise. It’s a terrific day out. For me the vibe is right up there.”

Celtic vs Rangers is barely days away, with the showdown between the two coming on December 30 at Parkhead in what is already a title six-pointer.
