79-year-old former Celtic goalie passes away
Denis Connaghan, a 79-year-old goalie for St. Mirren and Celtic, has passed away.
During his six-year tenure in Glasgow, he won three league titles in addition to the Scottish Cup and the Drybrough Cup in 1974.
Sadly, Denis Connaghan, a former goalkeeper for Celtic and St Mirren, passed away at the age of 79.
Before having a prosperous seven-year tenure at St. Mirren, Connaghan started his career at Parkhead. Then, in October 1971, he was signed again by the legendary Celtic manager Jock Stein. Despite making fewer appearances—just 56—he went on to win multiple major awards over the next six years.
Supporters of the Hornets are familiar with the goalie from their iconic two-point save against Rangers in the 1974 Drybrough Cup final shootout, Celtic’s lone victory in the competition. Connaghan competed with Ally Hunter and Evan Williams for the highly sought-after No. 1 jersey while he was a member of Celtic.

Kwon, a midfielder for Celtic from South Korea, made his St. Mirren debut yesterday in the Paisley Saints’ 1-0 Scottish Cup victory over Queen of the South.

Kwon wrapped up his season-long loan to Stephen Robinson’s team last week, and from all accounts, he made a respectable debut as St Mirren advanced to the next round of the Scottish Cup. Even though it was against a league one team, he would have had a difficult afternoon nonetheless.
